１、「磁石を糸でつるします。」Hang a magnet

「常に同じ向きを向く？違う向きを向く？」

「私の磁石と同じ向きを向いていますね。」

２、「方位磁針と比べます。同じ向き？違う向き？」Compare with a compass

「方位磁針と磁石は同じなので同じ向きです。」

「方位磁針と磁石は違うから違う向きです。」

「方位磁針と同じか、違うかですね。方位磁針の針に砂鉄はつくかな？」

Is it the same as a compass needle or is it different?

 Will iron sand stick to the compass needle?

“つかない”が多数。

「つきます。と言うことは、方位磁針は？」

「磁石です。」

「同じ向きになることを確かめましょう。」

３、「磁石にくっついたクギにクギはくっつく？」 Does a nail stick to a nail stuck to a magnet?

「くっつきます。」

「磁石から離すと、下のクギは落ちる？落ちない？」

「落ちません。ということは、上のクギは？」

「鉄です。」「磁石です。」

「鉄であって、磁石になりました。」

４、「水に浮かべた磁石の向きは方位磁針と同じかな？」

Is the direction of the magnet floating in water the same as the compass needle?　

「鉄の針を磁石でこすって、磁石にしておきます。」

Rub the needle with a magnet to make it a magnet.

「先生、これでいいですか？」

「半回転させてごらん。」

「元にもどりました。」

Even if you change direction, it will come back.

５、「磁石のN極は北、S極は南の方向を向きます。鉄を磁石でこすると磁石になります。」
